Women's power in Vienna - courageous, legendary, unknown women.

 

Many women have shaped the city of Vienna and its history - and yet there are hardly any monuments to them. Some of them are unknown, their achievements never appreciated, or they have been forgotten. Some are only perceived as wives, mistresses and muses at the side of famous men.

 

We want to change that with this walk - follow us in the footsteps of great female explorers, courageous fighters for peace, committed politicians for more women's rights, remarkable artists and, above all, unknown women whose achievements have (unjustly) never received recognition.

 

We start with the greatest Habsburg - Maria Theresa - and her lesser-known daughters, and then get to know women who fearlessly engaged in politics or even gave their lives in the resistance struggle. At the Burgtheater we meet legendary female artists and in the arcade courtyard of the university great women of science and research, to whom monuments were erected only a few years ago.
